Forty-five minutes. That's roughly how long it takes to get from the curb at Eagle County Regional Airport to Vail Village, and it's why so many Vail regulars fly into Eagle whenever they can. The road follows the valley the whole way: no mountain pass, no tunnel.
The drive
- Distance: about 35 miles from the terminal to the Vail Transportation Center
- Typical time: about 45 minutes
- Route: US-6 out of Gypsum, then I-70 east along the Eagle River, past Eagle, Edwards and Avon, into Vail
- Winter: no pass, but snow and I-70 incidents can slow things down; the Traction Law applies on this stretch from September 1 to May 31
Official figures vary from 30 to 37 miles depending on where in Vail you're going; Lionshead and Cascade come up a little sooner, East Vail a little later.
When you land
We track your flight from the moment it leaves, so an early or late arrival is handled before you land. Your chauffeur meets you, helps with bags and ski cases, and walks you to the car.
Need anything on the way? Ask for a stop: a grocery run in Edwards or Avon is the classic, so the fridge is full before you open the front door. Child seats are ready if you ask for them when you book.

Your options, compared fairly
Private car with Vail Moments
Door to door, just your group, on your schedule, in a luxury full-size SUV (Expedition MAX, Yukon XL, Suburban or similar) or an 11-passenger Ford Transit. Best for families, groups with gear, late arrivals and anyone who wants the first hour of the trip to be easy. Book your ride.
Epic Mountain Express
Vail Resorts' shuttle company offers shared door-to-door rides, where you may stop at other guests' lodging, as well as private vans and SUVs. Epic Pass holders get a discount.
Core Transit
The regional bus serves the airport for a $3 fare. It's the budget option if you're traveling light and your lodging is near a stop.
Uber and Lyft or a rental car
Ride-hailing operates in the valley, but cars can be scarce at busy times. A rental car brings Traction Law tire rules and Vail parking structures with daily rates; if you'll mostly stay in town, the free Vail buses make a car unnecessary.
Make the most of an Eagle arrival
Eagle flights are mostly winter-only and fill early in holiday weeks. Our Eagle airport flights guide lists all 19 nonstop routes for 2026–27. Once you're settled, getting around Vail covers the free buses, and the ski guide has a plan for day one. Want your rental skis waiting? Ski Butlers delivers them to your lodging.
